Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory - De Pere on Aug. 29, 2023.
Susan Martha (Fredlund) Wegge, 74, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, August 28, 2023. Sue, the daughter of Melvin and Delphie (Bernitt) Fredlund, was born on April 2, 1949.
Sue graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1967 and from the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in social work and psychology. It was at UMD that she met her husband, Dave. On July 11, 1970, Sue married Dave Wegge in Minneapolis. Together, they raised two amazing children, Kristine and Jonathan.
Sue worked as a geriatric social worker in the Wichita Falls Texas State Hospital from 1971 to 1974 while Dave served in the US Air Force. For several years Sue was a stay-at-home mom when her children were young. After a short time as a librarian at the St. Norbert College Library, she worked at the Brown County Library for 20 years in the reference department and as a young adult librarian. She retired from the Brown County Library in 2004.
Sue was a caretaker at heart. She was always concerned about others before herself. Her warm unassuming nature quickly made people feel comfortable. It started with her magnificent smile and two-hand clasp when she looked deeply into your eyes. She had Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant from her brother Jon in 1998. She cherished that gift to the very end of her life.
Sue enjoyed crafting, shopping, giving gifts, sending cards to mark special occasions, and attending St. Norbert College Hockey games. But most of all she loved spending time with Dave and her children and grandchildren. Sue believed that being present for her family was the key to life. She loved the time she spent taking care of Lawson and Duncan before they started school. Sue attended every concert, play, sporting event that her children and grandchildren participated in.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David; children, Kristine (Daniel) Weaver, Green Bay, and Jonathan (Jacqueline) Wegge,
Houston, TX; grandchildren, Lawson and Duncan Liedtke and Westley Wegge. She is further survived by Brothers Jon (Liz) Fredlund,
Anoka, MN, and Paul (Penny) Fredlund,
Seattle, WA; Sister-in-law Beverly Wegge, Richfield, MN, and Brother-in-law Jim (Rose) Wegge, Payson, AZ and many other family members and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Delphie Fredlund, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Dennis and Esther Wegge, nephew Christopher Fredlund as well as other cherished family members.
