Susan S. Whang, 91, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, in Avon, OH.
Susan was born in Seoul, Korea in 1933. She lived in Korea until the time she moved to the US to attend college in 1953. Here she attended Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee, graduating with a BA in Accounting.
After graduating, she moved back to Seoul in 1958. While in Korea she taught at her high school alma mater Ehwa Girls High School. In 1960 she moved back to the US to Washington DC and attended American University Graduate School. She eventually married her husband, Tack Joon, in 1961. Together they have three children. While raising her children she worked as an accountant and in 1980 she earned her certification in accounting (CPA). She retired after a 40 year career in accounting. She served as the accountant to many of the small Korean businesses in the Cleveland area.
Susan enjoyed being an active member of the Korean Central Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, gardening, traveling extensively and spending time visiting with family and friends. She will be loved and missed by many.
She is survived by her husband, Tack Joon Whang; children Dr Walter Whang (Debbie) of Chicago, IL; Joseph Whang (Marie) of Shaker Heights; Dr. Audrey Whang (Dr. John Janssen) of Milwaukee, WI; and grandchildren Caroline Whang, Joey Whang, Julia Whang, Andrew Janssen, Max Janssen, Sophia Whang, and Gabi Whang.
Visitation will be Saturday 10/26/2024 at Busch Funeral Home 32000 Detroit Rd in Avon from 1-2PM. A memorial service will follow at 2PM.
