Susan Kay Wright

Susan Kay Wright, age 74, of Marceline, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Life Care Center. Susan was born on August 14, 1950, in Pekin, Illinois, the daughter of Warren Montel Brent and Lillian Louise (Olson) Brent. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in Chillicothe, Illinois, in 1968. On November 14, 1969, she married Taylor Eugene Wright, and together they shared many years of family life and memories. A hardworking and dedicated woman, Susan was the owner and operator of Susie's Place in Marceline for 19 years. Her love for people and commitment to her work made her restaurant a beloved part of the community. Susan had many passions in life. She especially loved animals-most of all her dogs-enjoyed completing diamond dot crafts, spending time on the farm, and playing the organ. She had a well-known fondness for Diet Pepsi and treasured every moment spent with her family. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chillicothe, Missouri. Susan is survived by her three children: Carl "Skeeter" (Paula) Wright of Marceline, Jeff Wright (Tammy) of Marceline, and Stephanie Richardson of Brookfield; three stepchildren: Mike Wright of Trenton, John Wright of Marceline, and Chris Wright of Smithville; nine grandchildren: Josie (Alex) Pickman, Brittany (Brian) Husky, Samantha (Kameron) Kelly, Cody Stone, Nathan Wright, John Stelplugh, Paige (Gabe) Kelly, Noah Wright, and Mya Richardson; and three step-grandchildren: Zach Wright, Greg Wright, and Sarah Wright. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: LeeRoy, Cora, Gideon, Maeve, Marlow, Carter, and Andie, along with several step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Taylor Eugene Wright; her brother, Tim Brent; and step-grandchildren Phillip Wright and Leslie Wright. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with Bishop Jared Hardman officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, also at Delaney Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Mt. Olivett Cemetery in Marceline. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Linn County Humane Society.
