Suzanne was a good friend and a mentor to me from my first week working at Hinsdale Central. She was always there to lend advice and give support. She was never without an encouraging word and a smile on her face. I was Sarah's counselor as well...talk about a "chip off the old block" with the same exuberant spirit as her Mom! Those were such good and special times. Suzanne was simply a wonderful person in every way.

I had known Suzanne since we were young growing up in Hinsdale. She was in the class of 1967 and was a good friend of my cousin, Marilyn Jones. I ,also, substitute taught at Hinsdale Central High School for a few years and saw her in the English Department. She was a wonder person and friend to many people. She will be missed.

I first met Suzanne over the phone. She was calling me ask if I would take her pregnancy leave at school in the fall. She said I had subbed for her students and that they had given me a good review and she wanted to leave them in good hands. It was so sweet of her to pass that information on. I met her on the first full day of school; she introduced me to her classes and got me off to a great start. It was the beginning of a wonderful relationship and professional collaboration. I have always appreciated the opportunities she gave me and her encouragement. Moreover, we became trusted friends, shared many ideas, and, of course, laughs, as we navigated each school year together. Her sense of humor and insights were wonderful. I have so many good memories of her that are in my mind as I come to terms with the loss of such a good old friend.

The mention of Suzanne Strohschein always brings the biggest smile to my face. We worked together for 25 years at Hinsdale Central and District 86. She was a hoot to be around; one of the best educators I ever knew who would do anything for her students and even more for her beloved English department faculty. Always looking for new ideas, her exceptional leadership and communications skills were fully utilized as she lead, organized, cajoled, and steered an exceptionally large, talented and varied department to recognized achievements and successes. The two of us shared many happy times together over the years and a few rough ones as well, but I could always count on Suzanne for a smile, a laugh , a supportive and meaningful comment so that we could move on to our next challenge. She is, was and will always be one of my favorites.

Suzanne was an exceptional person! She was a one of a kind teacher and department chair. She gave her joy of learning to her students through her excitement about all things English, laughter, and love! Suzanne went out of her way to be kind and to help others. She touched so many lives. I am so fortunate that she touched mine.

Suzanne directed the plays I was in at Hinsdale Central in the 1970s. So many great memories and laughs as we rehearsed and performed. The cast parties were also a blast! I will remember her fondly.
