Suzanne “Suzzie” Katherine Sheltraw of Saginaw, Michigan, formerly of Hemlock
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 16, 2025. She was 91 years old. Suzanne Katherine Turner was born on March 30, 1934, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Raymond H. and Katherine (Grams) Turner. She was a proud graduate of Hemlock High School. She married the love of her life, Norman L. Sheltraw, in 1950, he preceded her in death on September 27, 2006. Suzzie was a stay-at-home mother, a role she treasured and cherished, as well as devoted wife and wonderful grandmother. She was a longtime and faithful member of Four Points United Methodist Church (Hemlock United Methodist Church) and participated in all aspects of church related activities. Suzzie was creative, artistic and enjoyed crafts, spending countless hours designing dolls, sewing, woodworking, and quilting. She stayed on top of new trends and enjoyed participating in church bazaars. Suzzie was an excellent cook and baker, most famous for her delicious banana and zucchini breads, as well as her Christmas sugar cookies. She, her husband, and the entire family enjoyed spending summers upstate camping at Old Orchard Park in Oscoda, Michigan, passing the tradition on to her children. Suzzie will forever be remembered for her wonderful laugh and outgoing personality, she was fiercely independent and had a kind, happy, and giving spirit, and truly lived a wonderful life filled with many beautiful memories.
Surviving are a daughter and two sons, Wendy Owczarzak of Saginaw; Mike Sheltraw of Ohio; Joe (Amy) Sheltraw of Bay City; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Sheltraw; two sons: Bradley and Douglas Sheltraw; siblings: Sherry Young and Betty Kreager.
Honoring Suzzie’s wishes cremation has taken place with a memorial service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to New Testament Bethal, 1215 Leng Street, Bay City, MI 48706.
