Mr. Sylvester James, affectionately known as "Buddy" or "Syl" by all, answered the Master's call on May 28, 2024 at his residence in the Choctaw Bluff Community of
Jackson, AL. He was born on August 14, 1960 in Mobile, AL to the parentage of Mrs. Nettie Mae Perine James and the late Mr. Clarence James.
At an early age his parents noticed that he was very quiet and reserved but had a love for music and a gift to sing. He was often found singing hymns with his mom and sister. Sylvester united with the New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Willie Griffin. He was very active in the Youth Choir and the Junior Usher Board. During his adolescent years, he formed a quartet group called The Willing Workers alongside two of his uncles and his cousin. They often traveled throughout the communities spreading the gospel through song.
Sylvester received his formal education in the Clarke County School System beginning at Little Grove School, under the leadership of the late Mrs. Maude James. He later advanced to Jackson High School and graduated with the Class of 1978. While in high school, he was a member of the basketball team and Future Business Leaders of America.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents.
Left to cherish his most precious memories are: his loving and devoted mother, Nettie Mae Perine James of the Choctaw Bluff Community of
