Sylvia Bryant Houze, 86, a resident of Gulfport, MS, gained her wings on June 14, 2025, at The Blake in Biloxi, peacefully in her sleep.
She was born in Highland, AL, on July 3, 1938, the daughter of the late Ester and Carrie Bryant. Sylvia was married to the late Grady Houze for 65 years; they said "I Do" on June 22, 1958.
Sylvia worked at the VA for 20-plus years in housekeeping before retiring. She was the cornerstone of our family full of love, wisdom, and grace. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, helping in her church, and running her store for the neighborhood kids. She was the FREEZER CUP lady. She was a dedicated member and Sunday school teacher at Anointed Temple AOH Church of God for many many years, where she served on the usher board. She was known as Mother Houze. Sylvia was a breast cancer survivor for more than 30 years.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband Grady Houze, her son Stevie Houze, her parents Ester Bryant and Carrie Bryant, and brothers Elijah Bryant and Ralph Parker.
Sylvia is survived by her brother Lazarus (Rhonda) Bryant, two sisters Olivia B (Eldridge, deceased) Jones, and Alice (Bobby,deceased) Kyle. Her children, Janet (Ray, deceased) Fletcher, of Gulfport, MS, Carolyn (Steve) Thompson, of Shreveport, LA, Sandra (Joe) McCullom, of Gulfport, MS, Willie (Julie,deceased) Houze, of Tacoma, WA, Gradie (Jackie) Houze of Braunfels, TX, and 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, Sister-in-law Annie Parker, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the Blake of Biloxi, Vital Caring Hospice and Infinity Funeral Home for taking care of our loved one.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23rd., at 11:00 am, at Anointed Temple AOH Church of God in Gulfport, MS. Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
