Sylvia was born on May 1, 1935 in
Fort Worth, Texas to Harold Olen Addison and Jennie Maria (Fassino) Addison. She married Ila Joe Hass on September 10, 1954. Sylvia graduated from McAlester High School with the Class of 1953 and devoted her life to her family, her faith, and her community.
Sylvia was first and foremost a loving and devoted mother. As a stay-at-home mom, she created a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, faith, and the comforting aroma of her wonderful cooking. Her kitchen was a gathering place, and no one ever left her table hungry.
After her youngest daughter began school, Sylvia worked for a local attorney and later served as an administrative assistant at the Pittsburg County Health Department until her retirement. In retirement, Sylvia and Ila enjoyed traveling and, most of all, spending precious time with their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, Sylvia's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Church, where she found strength, fellowship, and joy. Her steady devotion, quiet prayers, and servant's heart were examples to all who knew her.
Sylvia is survived by her children: Donald J. Hass of McAlester, Rita Wilson of McAlester, Sandra Hass of Crowder, Rebecca Wright and husband, Chuck, of Waldron, Arkansas, and Jerri Edge and husband, John, of McAlester; 37 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Louis Zummer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ila Joe Hass; daughter, Karen Hass Hammers; father, Harold Addison; mother, Jennie (Fassino) McDougal; and sister, Juanita Zummer.
Sylvia's legacy of faith, love, family, and unforgettable meals will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
