Janice Wood Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory - McAlester on Feb. 23, 2026.
Janice (Jan) Lee Wood (Shelton), of Crowder, Oklahoma, passed away on February 18, 2026 at the age of 85.

She was born on January 23, 1941 in Indianola, Oklahoma to Leo and Coeta Shelton (Daniels), and built a life defined by quiet strength, deep love, and steady grace.

Jan was the lifelong love and devoted wife of 68 years to Walter Loyd Wood. She was a proud and loving mother to David Wood (Kathy) of Oklahoma, Christopher Wood (Diana) of Florida, Mark Wood of Oregon, and Pamela Wood-Wegner (Eric) of Oregon. She carried her family at the center of her heart in everything she did.

To her grandchildren, she was "Boo," "Big Momma," and Grandma - names spoken with affection, comfort, and joy. She is survived by her three children and 13 grandchildren, as well as 15 great grandchildren, all of whom will carry her love with them always.

Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Loyd Wood, and her son, Christopher Wood.

She found joy in life's quiet pleasures - working crossword puzzles, shopping, reading books, listening to Celine Dion, Elvis Presley, and country music, and spending time at her beloved lakefront home, her favorite place in the world. It was there, surrounded by water, light, and cooking for the people she loved most, that she was happiest.

Those who knew Jan will remember her as kind, calm, intelligent, and deeply loving. She had a steady presence that made people feel safe and cared for.

Her family was her greatest accomplishment and her greatest joy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.

Jan's love remains - in the music she enjoyed, in the home she cherished, and most of all, in the family she and her husband built and held together.
