Sylvia Garza Mendiola, age 85, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on June 30, 1940, in Laredo, Texas, Sylvia lived a full and vibrant life rooted in love for her family and pride in her role as a devoted Navy wife.

Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late Rodolfo Mendiola Jr., with whom she shared a life of dedication and resilience for 64 years. As a proud retired Navy wife, she embraced what she often called "the toughest job in the Navy," supporting her husband through years of service with unwavering strength and grace.

She was a loving mother to four children: Deborah Ann Mendiola (Martha); Rodolfo Mendiola III; Ricardo Mendiola (Bill); and Brenda M. Resendez (Ricardo). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Kristina Marie Mendiola, Estevan Mendiola, Brianna Rickki Resendez, and Ricardo Resendez III, along with her great grandchildren: Lucas Vasquez and Lilianna Danika Vasquez and numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia also held close in memory her late grandson Rodolfo Mendiola IV, who preceded her in death.

Sylvia's home was always filled with warmth-whether from the aroma of something delicious baking in the oven or the laughter of family gathered around her table. She was known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills, which brought joy to countless family gatherings. A passionate gardener and avid reader, she found peace among blooming flowers and the pages of a good book. She also enjoyed watching novellas, often sharing commentary that reflected her sharp wit and sense of humor.

Those who knew Sylvia remember her as affectionate, loving, funny, beautiful inside and out-a woman whose presence lit up every room she entered. Her devotion to family was evident in every aspect of her life; she found immense joy simply spending time with those she loved most.

A funeral service honoring Sylvia's life will be held in San Antonio, Texas.

May Sylvia Garza Mendiola's memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
