Sylvia M. Wright

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sylvia M. (Strausbaugh) Wright, age 85, of McSherrystown. She passed away at home on April 9, 2025.
Sylvia was born in Hanover, PA on September 9, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Claude and Margaret Grace (Markle) Strausbaugh. Friends and family would often call her Tootsie or Toots. She retired from Hanover Lantern and was also employed with Hanover Shoe, Freeman Shoe, and Middleburg. Tootsie was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she had a great sense of humor. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing cards and bingo with relatives and friends. Later in life, she enjoyed painting her nails, listening to her family sing, and sitting outside. Sylvia also loved and cherished her dog, Tanner.
Sylvia is survived by her children Tina Becker and husband Samuel, Toni Campbell and husband Chris, and Terry Wright and wife Patricia; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Thomas Strausbaugh, Philip Strausbaugh, and Marie Lawrence. Sylvia was preceded in death by her siblings Dale Strausbaugh and Patricia Oaster.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Sylvia's life will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 2:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344 with Pastor Alison Kurland officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1:00PM – 2:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sylvia's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
