Retired US Army CW3 Talton Allen Oliver, 80, of Selma, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
Allen was born on September 10, 1943 in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He worked as a Criminal Investigator with the US Army, retiring as a CW3. During his 21 year career, he served his community as a Narcotics Officer and Protective Service Agent where he guarded dignitaries such as the Pope, the President and Casper Weinberger. He earned numerous accolades during his career. His retirement days were devoted to his loving wife, of 61 years, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Allen is survived by his wife, Mary Karen Oliver, his daughter, Shannon Wood, his three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Joel Dean Riley and wife, Sherry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Joe Riley, and his brothers, Thomas Gordon Oliver and Rickey Orren Riley.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 1 pm at Sullivan's Highland Chapel. The burial with military honors will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
