Tammy Stone, 57, of Mitchellville, passed away December 19, 2024, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Dumont Reformed Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Tammy will be laid to rest in the Dumont Cemetery at a later date. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Dumont is caring for Tammy and her family.
Tammy was born on December 31, 1966, in Waterloo, IA and was raised by her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Lucille Miller. She graduated from Dumont High School, class of 1985. Tammy has worked in Des Moines at Hy-Vee for more than 12 years, most recently as a night stock manager. Previous to Hy-Vee and previous to her moving to Des Moines, while raising her children employment found Tammy quite busy at times. An impeccable work ethic which included Office Manager for the Grundy Care Center, a CNA, J&C Grocery in both Dumont and Allison, IA along with house cleaning and nanny for a number of years, outside the home. Tammy was dedicated to whomever she worked for, wherever she worked. She was often found working so hard, sometimes with 2 or 3 jobs at the same time, instilling a great deal of pride in her children, each so very respectful of how hard of a worker and how dedicated their mother was. Not to mention how Tammy's employers felt about her work ethic, appreciating her years of service and dedication respectively.
On July 7, 2014, Tammy was united in marriage to Steven Stone in Des Moines. She was passionate about family, enjoying and cherishing moments through photos, videos, and was often found singing and playing guitar with family members during gatherings. Tammy shared her passion for the Minnesota Vikings with her son David, while also supporting the Kansas City Chiefs due to their ties with Hy-Vee. Tammy had a fondness for collecting Tweety Bird, gnome, and peacock memorabilia and her favorite holiday was April Fool's Day. She treasured capturing memories of family get-togethers, and loved riding her motorcycle alongside her sons, David and Michael, as well as her daughter Janey. Tammy was an avid pickleball player and a longtime member of USA Pickleball.
Tammy is survived by her husband Steve Stone of Mitchellville; daughter Janey (Chris) Potter of Reinbeck; sons David (Jamie) Hearn of Dumont and Michael (Andrea) Hearn of Dumont; seven grandchildren with one on the way; and brother Tim (Shannon) Miller of Klemme.
She was preceded in death by her mother Janice Miller and maternal grandparents Kenneth and Lucille Miller.

Thinking of you, Steve and family. I always enjoyed talking with Tammy at pickleball tournaments. Partnered with her once several years ago and appreciated her supportive and positive attitude. Very sorry for your loss.

It is with great sadness that I send my deepest sympathies to Steve, Janey and your entire family. I will always remember being greeted by Tammy´s smiling face each morning as she opened the front doors of Hy-Vee. Initially, I assumed that she worked in the kitchen because she was always wearing an apron and a hat. Shortly thereafter, I learned she was the Night Stock Manager and we began to interact when she needed research done on specific items. One morning, while working on something up in the office, she happened to be on the phone with her daughter. It was then that I first learned of Janey. From that day on, I would always try to give a big "hello Janey," from across the room as they chatted thru Tammy´s ear buds. This was something Tammy did daily and I very much admired how close they were. One morning, Tammy asked if I would like to go to lunch sometime. I said yes and two days later we met downtown for lunch. Who knew that would be the start of our friendship, the first time I ever got a car towed and the beginning of road trips to watch Janey perform! These are memories I will always treasure for a friendship that was just getting started. Who would have ever thought our time together would be so short. I will miss you forever my dear, sweet Tammy. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend.
