Obituary
Theodore "Ted" James Vigil
April 17, 1938- December 24, 2025
Theodore "Ted" James Vigil, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in
Worland, Wyoming, surrounded by his family on the night of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025.
Ted was born on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1938, to Anthony "Tony" Isabel Martinez and Claudina Maria (Torres) Vigil north of Worland on Six Mile. He was raised on the family farm on Rairden Lane and attended Manderson High School, graduating in 1956.
Following high school, Ted moved to Denver where he attended an electronics trade school, began an apprenticeship as an electrician, and also served in the Army Reserves. After returning to Wyoming, he met the love of his life, Patricia Kucera, and they were married in 1963. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and faith.
Ted partnered with his brothers Matt, John, and Dave in Vigil Brothers, a farming operation he worked in for several years before it later dissolved. He then established his own farming operation, and he and Patsy went on to raise their eight children on the family farm. A hardworking and successful farmer, Ted earned recognition as a "Top 10 Beet Farmer" for several years and was once named the largest sugar producer for the Worland-area factory. He helped all three of his sons get started in their own farming operations and instilled in them a love of farming, people, and hard work. He was generous by nature and always willing to help anyone in need.
After retiring, Ted loved to drive around and kept a sharp eye on his sons' operations, always noticing what needed to be done and offering advice - whether it was asked for or not. He also enjoyed traveling, including fishing trips to Alaska, visits to Mexico and Canada, and journeys throughout the western states. He especially cherished trips to Taos, New Mexico, and to Spain where his family originated, visits to siblings in Colorado, Michigan, and Washington, and drives through the Red River Valley of North Dakota.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Tony, Paul, John, Matthew, and Joseph; his sisters Elva and Lou; his son-in-law, Dean Rasmussen and several in-laws.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy, of 62 years; sons, Mark (Donna) Vigil of Upton; Michael (Karen) Vigil of Manderson; and Danny (Nicole) Vigil of Worland; his daughters, Kathy Ann (Rob) Stuckey of Worland; Christy (Jerry) Harvard of Worland; Monica (Brent) Notman of Douglas; Michelle (Douglas) Hamilton of Worland; and Connie (Dan) Baker of North Platte, Nebraska; his brother, Dave (Kathy) Vigil of Worland; his sisters, Ruth White of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Clara Sewell of Denver, Colorado; his sisters-in-law, Mary Vigil of Worland, Carol (Jerry) Fuller of Basin, and Nellie Vigil of Post Falls, Idaho; along with 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his family and by all who loved him.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Worland Middle School Auditorium, with Don Wood officiating. Burial at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery will take place afterward, followed by a reception at the Washakie County Fairgrounds.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that everyone try to live as Jesus did and believe in Him. Donations may be sent to anyone in need. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
