Teresa Sciascia Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 15, 2024.
Picture the family dinner, with all the relatives. We can all identify with those happy times, making memories. But in the Sciascia family there was one particular person that could break up those mundane kitchen tasks with a sudden burst of a song and a dance!! That was Terry! Always digging into to her entertaining repertoire that transformed the family into a group production of song, food, and laughter! (Ravioli and Jelly donuts being the favorite).
Teresa Rose (Terry) Sciascia formerly of Ridley Park, PA passed away peacefully in Annapolis, MD on Saturday July 13, 2024. Terry was born on December 12, 1942 in Darby, PA to her parents Patricia and Louis Raffaele. She was the youngest in the family and adored her brother John and sister Mary Ann. Terry grew up in Aldan, PA and graduated from Archbishop Prendergast High School. Her love of music and dancing led her to her husband Thomas Sciascia and they married in 1965. They settled in Ridley Park and raised two daughters; Linda and Lori.
Terry went back to school after raising her daughters and acquired a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was employed at Swarthmore Presbyterian Nursery Day School as a Teacher's Aide. Terry loved working with all ages of children. She imparted her athletic skills in softball by coaching her two daughters' softball teams. Not only was Terry a competitive athlete, she was a two- time survivor of cancer, all while working and taking care of a family. She was a devoted Phillies fan and never missed watching or attending a game whenever possible.
When Terry and Tom retired, they enjoyed spending their time with family and friends in Ocean City, NJ where they had a shore house. She is survived by 5 grandchildren. She was an active Grandma; reading, playing games, doing puzzles, watching the Phillies, and of course singing and dancing with them all!
Terry always made those around her feel special and loved. She would write honoree poems at birthday and anniversary parties. She was an active member of the Bible Study group at Saint Madeline's Catholic Church, where she participated in many charitable events.
Upon her move to an Assisted Living facility in MD, Terry continued her infectious love of singing and dancing and sports, and her spontaneous bursts of song and dance endeared her to all the staff.
We will miss you dearly Terry, Mom, Grandmom. You are now reunited with our family in heaven watching over us while singing and dancing, cheering the Phillies and maybe sneaking a jelly donut or two!
Terry is predeceased by her husband Thomas Sciascia, her daughter Lori Ann Poisker, her parents Patricia and Louis Raffaele, as well as her siblings, John Raffaele and Mary Ann Ashton. She is survived by her Daughter Linda Gottzandt, (Kurt), and 5 Grandchildren; Zackary, Maggie, Jesse, Gabriella, and Mackenzie; her son-in-law Ben Poisker and sister-in-law Linnea Raffaele.
Relatives & friends are invited to her Viewing Monday, July 22nd 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM followed by her Funeral Mass 11:00 AM ALL IN CHURCH at St. Madeline Parish 110 Park St, Ridley Park, PA 19078. Interment Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
