Terrie Lynne Cheadle was born on July 16, 1954, to Otis and Helen (Taylor) Cheadle of Anadarko, Ok. She was the eldest daughter and became a big sister to Coral Jean and Lisa Lorraine. Terrie is a graduate of Anadarko High School Class of 1972. Terrie was an active band member who played the clarinet, and she was also a baton twirler for the marching band. Terrie was also involved with the Afro-Club, Yearbook Club and was selected as a Basketball Queen and a Band Queen. As a teenager, Terrie's first job was with the TG&Y Store in Anadarko. Terrie was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church while growing up, where she participated in the Methodist Youth and sang in the youth choir. In later years, Terrie would return to St. Paul to serve on several committees, sing in the choir, lead songs and play the piano on occasion. Upon graduation from high school, Terrie attended Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma to pursue her education. While attending SWOSU, she met her future spouse, Beauford Owens. The two married in July of 1978 and began their life in Houston, Texas. To this union, their daughter, Apryl Dawn, was born in 1980. Before the birth of her daughter, Terrie worked for Western Fencing Company as an administrative assistant. When Apryl was a toddler, Terrie began working for the Texas Department of Labor. Terrie was employed with the State of Texas for several years before she and Apryl returned to Oklahoma in 1992.
After her return to Oklahoma, Terrie lived in her hometown of Anadarko where she worked as an administrative assistant for the Anadarko Municipal Hospital. Terrie would later also work for the City of Chickasha and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. In 2000, she moved to Oklahoma City to start her career with the Oklahoma State Department of Education. During her time at SDE, Terrie served under multiple State Superintendents of Public Instruction; Sandy Garrett, Janet Barresi, Joy Hofmeister and Ryan Walters until her retirement in December of 2024. Terrie transferred her church membership to Quayle United Methodist Church when she relocated to the OKC area. As a member of Quayle, Terrie was a valued choir member and participated in United Methodist Women activities. Terrie believed in staying active and enjoyed yoga classes as well as classes at Metro FIT Line Dance. In 2022, Terrie, Apryl and the grandkids moved to Midwest City. She loved supporting her grandchildren in various school programs, plays and MWC Pom Squad events. They were her pride and joy! Terrie also enjoyed taking a good girl's trip with her friends. We celebrated Terrie's 70th birthday last year with a surprise," What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" themed party! It was a big hit with her. She also shared a birthday with her friend Debbie and the two often made plans for something exciting. As Terrie began a new chapter in retirement, she looked forward to spending time with her family and friends as well as having new adventures in traveling.
