Terry Atkiels, 82 of Barrington, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Chester and Beatrice (nee Goldberg) Atkiels.
Terry was a successful entrepreneur and business owner, working in the real estate and grocery industries. His career and personal interest in traveling brought him to places all around the globe - Asia, Europe, and North America - with his favorite destination being Germany. He was a 57-year Chicago Bears season ticket holder and loved his Cubbies, Bulls and Blackhawks. In his spare time, Terry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing golf. When the kids grew older and left the “nest” he enjoyed many years with his favorite German Shepherd dog, Nikki, whom he spoke fondly of long after she passed.
He is survived by his wife, Narcissa “Nina” Atkiels (nee Cole); children, William “Billy” (Margot) Atkiels, Michael (Alison) Atkiels, and Jeannie Emerson; grandchildren, Edward “Teddy” (IV), Terry, and Timothy (Tessa) Brennan, Kiersten and Rhyse Donehey, William (II) (Mikala) and Michael (Megan) Atkiels, and Matthew Bauerle; great-grandchildren, Edward “Teddy” (V), Jack, Joseph, Alexander, Griffin and Marceline; sister, Patricia Evans as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister/brother-in-law, Marilyn (Robert) Ptak; brother-in-law, Billy Evans and daughter, Janet Donehey.
