Terry Burns, 80, of
Winnebago, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He has been reunited with the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Phyllis Burns, who preceded him in death.
Born on August 2, 1945, in Richland Center, Wisconsin, Terry was the son of Paul and Lorena "Fern" (Gander) Burns. He was a proud graduate of West High School in Rockford, Illinois, class of 1963. Terry met the former Phyllis Mason on a blind date, and they were married on June 17, 1978.
Terry started his career in heating and air conditioning at Smith Oil before establishing his own business, Professional Heating and Air Conditioning. He later worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Rosecrance Health Network, and in retirement, he continued to serve his community part-time by delivering meals on wheels for Lifescape.
A member of the Blackhawk Athletic Club, Terry loved spending time there with friends. He had a deep passion for traveling with his wife and their dogs in their motor homes, and cherished the time he spent fishing and camping. For over 25 years, he enjoyed meeting family and friends at Nelson Lake in Hayward, Wisconsin.
Terry was a devoted and loving father to his two daughters, Tami (Deaion) Berogan of Rockford and Amy (Ken) Garnhart of Winnebago, of whom he was always immensely proud. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Terry is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis, and his sisters, Patricia Smykay and Connie Dorsey.
