KINGSPORT - Terry Dawson, 75, born Sept. 1, 1948, went home to be with his Savior Saturday with his family by his side.
Terry had owned and operated Dawson's Grocery on Horton Highway since 1978 until he retired Dec. 31, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Richard "Dick" and Elva White Dawson; an infant sister; and two stepsons: Tony and Chad Bowen.
Terry is survived by his wife of 25 years: Lowanda Roberts Dawson; brothers and sisters: Richard "Jr." (Tiny) Dawson, Jane (Johnny) Dickerson, Patty (Jerry) Smith, Reba (Eddie) Salyers, and Lloyd Dawson; three children, including a very special daughter: Lisa (Mark) Anderson, and Larry and Ralph McGhee; two very special grandchildren: Robert "Bub" (Faith) Cole and Mikayla "Sis" (Brandon) Schofield; four very special great-grandchildren: Cayden Cole, Hadleigh Schofield, and Coltyn and Bailey McGhee; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Jerry Smith and Marty Jackson officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Lloyd Dawson, Larry McGhee, Austin McGhee, Dustin McGhee, Michael Willis and Ralph McGhee.
Honorary pallbearers will include the congregations of Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church and Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.
The family expresses a special thank you to Dr. Chad Bates and his staff, and Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice.
