Sergeant First Class Terry Lee Hitchins, 78, of High Point, NC, passed at his home on September 15, 2025. He was born June 6, 1947, in Cook County, Illinois, to Jerry and Shirley Jones Hitchins.

SFC Hitchins was a decorated veteran having served his entire career in the United States Army until his retirement in 1995. Known as "Terry" to his friends and wife, "Dad" to his two kids, and "Opa" to his grandchildren, he was never one to stay in one place for long. His frequent change in military stations only fueled his love for travel. Spending most of his years stationed in Germany, Terry was also able to call many of the United States his home as well, including Alaska. Dad had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing various instruments and singing in two bands: The Catalinas and Tapestry. After his retirement, he spent his time fishing, golfing, traveling or catching the latest hit shows. In 2021, He and his wife moved to North Carolina to spend more time watching the grandkids play their favorite sports and settle into his final place of travel.

Surviving is his devoted wife of 41 years, Renate Hitchins: son, Damian Hitchins (Jasmine) of Greensboro, NC; daughter, Lindsay Vance (Chris) of Climax, NC; sister Colleen Goodale of Nashville, TN; and six grandchildren, Skylar Hitchins, Dallas Hitchins, Ryan Hitchins, Nicholas Vance (Emily), Hayden Vance, and Saylor Vance.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Pastor Chris Vance officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors.
