Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Huck, 89, of
High Point, NC, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carole, of 69 years, whom he married in 1956. He cherished Carole and was such an example of how to treat, honor and care for his wife. Together, they built a legacy of faith, love, and family.
Born on August 11, 1936, in Lancaster, Ohio, Larry perfected skills learned in the Air Force to become an Air Traffic Controller. Larry and Carole relocated several times in their early years as new posts opened, but spent the majority of his career at the Control Center in Oberlin, OH. They raised their family in Grafton, OH, before relocating in 2000 to Fort Mill, SC. In 2019, they built a home in High Point and moved there.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Huck, and by his brother, Paul Huck.
Larry was a cherished father to four children: Linda Hulin (Jeff), Janet Powell (Rob), Shawn Huck (Kristy), and Scott Huck (Roxy). He also leaves behind his brother, Robert Huck. His life was further blessed by 12 grandchildren-Ben Hulin, Whitney Leeper, Cason Hulin, Tanner Hulin, Morgan Powell, Lindsay Hamaker, Cara Luhring, Marcy Huck, Sidnay Huck, Dana Kennedy, Abby Huck, and Emily Simpson-and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply loved and brought him immense joy. He wore the titles of "grandpa" and "papa" proudly.
A man of strong Christian faith, Larry was deeply committed to serving others. Over the years, he and Carole took part in numerous mission trips to Italy and Brazil, sharing their faith and compassion with people around the world. He also ministered in Africa. While in Fort Mill, SC, he was actively involved in a ministry dedicated to serving the homeless, always seeking ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Larry loved nothing more than spending time with his family - including treating his grandchildren to special breakfast dates on their way to school, which became a cherished tradition. He also had a deep passion for reading, enjoyed leather working, and needle punch. Larry passed down his love and skills in craftsman woodworking and home projects by working with his sons, sons-in-laws, and grandsons. He also shared his adventures in golf, tennis, skiing, boating, and camping with his children and grandchildren who now enjoy many of the same pastimes. (Larry would have a story to tell if we asked him about the axe incident and Janet's tent!)
A proud Ohio native, Larry was a lifelong fan of Ohio State football and the Cleveland Indians. His loyalty to the Buckeyes was matched only by his devotion to his family and his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. To his family, Larry will be remembered as a man of integrity, humility, and unwavering faith-a true spiritual leader who lived out his beliefs and loved others well. Hearing his tender prayers at the dinner table (and thanking the Lord "for all the lovely ladies around the table"), enjoying his wealth of stories, and laughing at his Larry-isms ("It's better than a stick in the eye!") will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in
High Point, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
In honor of his military service, Larry's cremated remains will be laid to rest with military honors at Salisbury National Cemetery on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Larry's memory to Joni and Friends or to Green Street Baptist Church MISSIONS, 303 North Rotary Drive in
High Point, NC.
