Terry Winn Jones, 68, of Bogart passed away on September 28, 2024. She was the daughter of the late James Carroll and Geneva Ridlehoover Winn.
Terry was born August 19, 1956, in McCormick, SC, the youngest of six girls. She grew up and resided in Plum Branch, SC for the first 54 years of her life, where she graduated from Wardlaw Academy, became a wife, loving mother, school volunteer, childcare provider, substitute teacher, and a case manager at the McCormick Senior Center. She was a member of Plum Branch and McCormick First Baptist Churches, where she taught children and youth Sunday School classes.
After moving to Athens, GA to enjoy life with grandchildren in 2010, she faithfully attended Athens Church, and continued a passion for gardening, yard work and growing her beautiful flowers. Terry loved conversation, laughter, worship music and the oldies, family beach vacations, and was a joy-filled and positive presence wherever she went. She was a treasured member of numerous families over the years as she cared for and loved their children so well.
She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Bethany Shea, and sisters, Gene Preveaux, Mary Ann (Melvin) Riley, and Miriam (Frank) James.
Terry is survived by her husband of 49 years, J. Ira Jones, daughter Shannon Jones (Chad) Carnes of Bogart, granddaughters, Margaret Winn Carnes and Nelia Carnes, and Rex Bandy of Columbus, who was like a son to her. Additionally, she’s survived by two sisters, Carolyn Jackson and Gail (Jimmy) Collier.
In keeping with Terry’s perspective to always choose joy, an outdoor memorial gathering will be held for family and friends on Sunday, October 6 at the Athens Church Green Space, 10 Huntington Road, Athens, GA 30606. A time of informal fellowship will begin at 3:00, with an opportunity for celebrating her life through sharing of memories at 4:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
