MORTON – Terry L. Metzger, 80, of Morton, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on March 5, 1944, in Decatur, Ill., to Laurence and Loretta (Bogue) Metzger. Terry married Connie Clark on February 11, 1966, in Decatur, Ill. Terry is survived by his wife, Connie; his children, Rob (Anne) Metzger, Christy Metzger (Shane) and Dave (Katy) Metzger; his grandchildren, Kyle, Brian, Kevin, Danny, Maddie, Zoe, Savanah, Kinley and Liam; his brother, Larry (Deanna) Metzger; his sister, Elaine Dresback and his beloved dog, Sophie. He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony and one brother, Dale. Terry spent the bulk of his career at Caterpillar and retired after 33 years in 2002. In retirement, he was an avid golfer, runner and sports enthusiast. He loved watching Fighting Illini basketball and the Chicago Cubs, and was so pleased when they won the World Series in 2016. Terry also loved landscaping, and spent countless hours planting trees and flowers outside his home. But beyond his work and hobbies, the thing Terry loved most was spending time with family – especially his wife, children and grandchildren. Some of his best times were spent coaching basketball at Blessed Sacrament and watching his grandchildren play sports and participating in cheerleading and dance. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both in Morton. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, with Msgr. Gerald Ward officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Runners' Association or Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
