Isabell (Chalfant) Metzger, 102 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at the Weirton Geriatric Center.

Isabell was born on July 6, 1923 in Fayette City, PA. She was the daughter of the late Hugh Chalfant and Jane "Jean" (Legg) Chalfant.

After graduating from high school, Isabell pursued her love of learning at Business College, where she honed the skills that led to her first job as a secretary at Montgomery Ward. Organized, dependable, and quick with a warm smile, she took pride in her work and in making others' days a little brighter.

Her life took a beautiful turn when she met and married William "Bill" Metzger. Together, they built a life rooted in love and hard work, first on the Metzger family farm and later in Wellsburg, where they moved in the early 1950s. Their home was always filled with laughter, the aroma of home-cooked meals, and the sound of music-Isabell's true passion.

A deeply devoted member of the Wellsburg Presbyterian Church, Isabell's faith was the quiet strength behind everything she did. She sang in the church choir with a voice that touched many hearts-often stepping forward for solos that she delivered with grace and soul. She also played in the bell choir, where her joy and musical talent shone brightly. Her faith wasn't just something she spoke about-it was something she lived daily, in kindness, compassion, and generosity.

When her children were grown, Isabell returned to the workforce, joining Eagle Manufacturing. She worked there for 19 years, becoming not just a valued employee but a beloved friend to many of her coworkers.

Isabell had a curious spirit and a love for history and preservation, which she channeled as a proud member of the Ohio Questers. Her passion for the past extended into a lifelong delight in reading-a joy she lovingly shared with her daughters, often exchanging books and stories together. But above all, Isabell will be remembered for the way she made people feel-loved, welcomed, and lifted by her presence. She shared the love of Christ not just in words, but in every note she sang, every hand she held, and every life she touched.

In addition to her parents, Isabell was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Metzger, son-in-law, Jim McElroy, three brothers, Bob, Bill and Dewey Chalfant.

Isabell is survived by her three daughters, Carol Lynn and husband, Bill of Wellsburg, WV, Mary Jane McElroy of Follansbee, WV and Barbara Lauck and husband, Gene of Center Township, PA, four grandchildren, Lara Woodrum and husband, Matthew of St. Albans, WV, Scott McElroy and fiancé, Brianna Staffileno of Weirton, WV, Jennifer Rodgers and husband, Michael of Williamsport, PA and Brian Lauck and wife, Jennifer of St. Albans, WV, four great grandchildren, Gillian Woodrum and Connor, Ethan and Maesie Rodgers, a sister, Jean Vastartis of Broadview Heights, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551 and again on Monday, August 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Wellsburg Presbyterian Church with Reverend Carl Tribett, presiding.

Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsburg Presbyterian Church, C/o Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV 26070.
