Terry Edwin Moss, age 78, passed away peacefully in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on September 6, 2025. He was born on September 5, 1947, in Mobile, Alabama, and was the son of James Edwin Moss and Josepaul Grandquest, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a devoted husband to Martha Callicutt Moss for 48 years.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, and children: Jason Edwin Moss of Millbrook, Alabama, and Jennifer Louise Chapman (Bryan) of Whiteland, Indiana, as well as his stepchildren: Robert Kerr Prather of Newnan, Georgia, and William Allen Prather (Jennifer) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. His love for his entire family, biological and step, was immeasurable.
Terry's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Madison Clarkson (Morgan), Shelbi Chapman, Katelyn Chapman, and Kaylyn Gartrell (Chase), as well as his great-grandchildren: Holden Clarkson, Tatum Clarkson, and Olivia Gartrell. He took great joy in the time spent with each of them, cherishing every moment and creating lasting memories across generations.
A proud Vietnam War veteran, Terry served in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he was wounded in action in December of 1967 and was awarded the Purple Heart. His bravery, dedication and sacrifice to his country were hallmarks of his character, and he carried the Marine Corps spirit with him throughout his life. As he often said, "Once a Marine, always a Marine."
A devoted convert to the Catholic faith, Terry's deep sense of spirituality informed his life, grounding him in the values of service and compassion. As an insurance agent for decades, he was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and warm sense of humor that made him beloved by colleagues and clients alike.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
