Terry O'Hara

Terry David O'Hara, Age 79, Stanwood, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Rehabilitation Center in Lisbon, IA.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Lost Nation, IA, from 9:30 AM until Mass time at 10:30 AM with Father Bob Kootz presiding. Inurnment with military honors will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church cemetery.
Terry was born on August 11, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the son of the late John R. and Ruth C. (House) O'Hara. Terry was raised on a farm near Coggon, IA. He graduated high school in 1963, then afterwards joined US Navy and served on hospital ship off the coast of Vietnam.
Terry did many different things in his lifetime. He worked as an X-Ray tech after being honorably discharged from the Navy. He helped his brother Don at the Shell gas station in Lisbon, worked at Wilson pack for several years, managed HiWay Gardens in Stanwood, where he made many friends. He quit his factory job in Cedar Rapids to come to Lost Nation to help his mother to run the family business, "The Colonial Inn" after his father died. When the business was sold, Terry worked as a union laborer until his was injured in a construction accident.
Terry enjoyed helping his family and friends; he was very involved with his Legion family, both in Lost Nation and in Stanwood. He was a true Irishman, a bit outspoken, caring, loved to gamble, and enjoyed people. He will be missed.
Those left to cherish Terry's memory are his siblings, Mike (Karen), Patricia Odean, John (Lynn), Steven, Gregory, Margaret Monaghan, and David; his brother-in-law, David Sterk; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald O'Hara; his special friends, Walter Meyer, Rose Mary Owen, and Garry and Sally Worby. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Charles (MIA 1969), Donald (2024) and Phyllis Sterk (2009).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Legion in Stanwood, IA.
