Terry Smallwood, a beloved husband, father, and papaw, passed away on October 4, 2025, in Charlestown, Indiana, surrounded by the love of his life, his wife Bonnie. Born on February 20, 1960, in Louisville, Kentucky, Terry led a life marked by dedication, love, and service.
Terry had a storied career as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service, where his commitment to hard work and community service was evident. He also proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during Desert Storm, an experience that shaped his character and principles. Terry’s honesty and straightforwardness endeared him to many, reflecting a man who valued integrity above all.
Educated at Jeffersonville High School before pursuing further studies at IVY Tech, Terry cultivated a lifelong love for learning. Beyond his professional achievements, he was proudest of watching his family grow. His legacy is woven into the lives of his children and grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he instilled in them.
An enthusiastic fisherman, Terry found great joy in riding his Harley and cherished his time spent with family, especially as "Papaw" to his numerous grandchildren. Each moment shared with them was a treasure, creating fond memories that they will hold dear.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Smallwood; his children, Matthew (Ashley) Smallwood, Becky (T.J.) Johnson, Arika (Ryan) Eckert, Dakota (Mitchell) Smallwood, Kaylah (Steve) Robison; Terry (Megan) Smallwood II., and Kelsie Evans. He was also the proud papaw of Montanna Johnson, Jakob Eckert, Serenity Eckert, Brooklyn Johnson, Levi Smallwood, Sawyer Robison, Isaac Smallwood, Adara Smallwood, Aurora Smallwood, Odessa Smallwood, Tyler Johnson, and Alyssa Johnson, numerous great-grandchildren, his three brothers, two sisters, and many loving friends and family.
He was predeceased by his mother, Lois Still, and his father, Albert D. Still and two beloved sisters. The impact of Terry’s life will be felt by all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Terry's life during the visitation on October 12, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Monday October 13, from 9:00am-11:00am with services to follow at 11:00 AM, held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, in Henryville Indiana.
Terry Smallwood’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, inspiring them to carry his legacy of loyalty, devotion, and heartfelt sincerity.
