Linda Sue Ashwood, 84, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Born on July 8, 1941, in New Albany, Indiana, Linda dedicated many years to serving her community, culminating in a rewarding career with the Army Corps of Engineers. An alumna of New Albany High School, she held a deep appreciation for education and shared that passion as a substitute teacher for New Albany Floyd County Schools.
Linda was an adventurous soul who enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. She had a love for shopping, which brought her joy throughout her life. Her home was filled with warmth, accompanied by her cherished cats, who gave her comfort and companionship. She also created great companions throughout her time spent as a member of Edwardsville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse F. McCain, Sr.; her mother, Ruth A. McCain; her son, Douglas Epperson; her brother, John Wayne McCain; her sister, Sandra "Sandi" Kay McFarland; and her brother, Jesse F. McCain, Jr.
Linda's legacy lives on through her surviving family, which includes her sons, Mike (Ichiko) and Patrick (Amanda) Epperson; and her cherished grandchildren, Samuel, Shouko, Zachary, Alexandra, and Nicholas. She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Sturgeon, Patricia (Gene) Swinney, Jacquline Lynn (Robert) Manley, Mary Jo (James) Steed, and Cindy McCain; along with her brother, David (Cynthia) McCain.
Visitation for Linda will take place from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in New Albany, located at 3309 Ballard Lane. Linda will be laid to rest privately at Friendship Cemetery.
The family requests that contributions in Linda’s memory be made to Floyd County Animal Rescue League.
