Brian Craig Obituary

Brian Joseph Craig, left this world far too soon on September 6, 2025, at the age of 46, in Charlestown. Born on February 13, 1979, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, he brought joy, laughter, and a joyous spirit into the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

His journey started with his time spent at the New Albany Boys and Girls Club, a pivotal stage in his life, where he met lifelong mentors and friends. While attending New Albany High School, he became the boys’ high school basketball team manager, where he proudly earned state runner-up in 1996 along with a cherished championship ring. It was here that he forged friendships with basketball legends like Chad Hunter, Romeo Langford, Ladrell Whitehead, and Lamont Rollad.

Brian graduated on May 29, 1997, but his dedication did not end there. He became a steadfast member of the community, proudly serving Kroger for 20 years. Beyond the aisles and shelves, Brian’s heart beat loudly for the games he loved, like the smooth glide of pool cues, amassing accolades that included the esteemed title of Indiana State Pool Champion.

Brian’s zest for life was evident in everything he pursued. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for his beloved Indiana University and the San Francisco 49ers, exuding his enthusiasm whether he was at the bowling alley, on the pool table, or cheering from the sidelines. His spirit shone brightest when surrounded by family and friends, many of whom referred to him as "Butters". He relished every chance to share laughter and create lasting memories-often at Jack's or during spirited games of bingo.

Despite facing challenges, including the loss of his mother, Doris Jean Craig, biological mother, Sherry Ann Craig, and brothers George Craig, Jr. and Butch Hardy, Brian’s outlook remained remarkably positive. He was a beacon of encouragement and joy, an ‘overdoer’ who sought to uplift those around him, embodying compassion and kindness. His light touched countless lives, from being a poster child for Metro United Way at the tender age of 10 and a proud participant in the Special Olympics.

He is survived by a loving partner, Nakiea Robinson, whose presence brought joy and comfort to his life. He also leaves behind a resilient family: his father, George Allen Craig, Sr. and stepmother, Kathy; brother, Mitch (Jennifer) Craig; sisters, Mimi (Charlie) Hoskins, and Cathy (Ben); along with a host of cherished nieces and nephews, including Hailee, Rylee, Emma, Angela (Jeremy), Amanda, Jacob, Caitlin, Derek, and Kayla, as well as great-nephew Braiden Johnson and great-niece Avery Johnson. Each one carries a piece of Brian's spirit within them.

A visitation will take place from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in New Albany and continue on Saturday after 10:00 a.m. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at the funeral home, with cremation to follow.

The family requests that contributions in Brian’s memory be made to The Special Olympics.
