Terry K. Strain, a cherished educator and beloved community member, passed peacefully on November 3, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 78. Born on March 28, 1947, in Vigo County, Indiana, Terry dedicated over 30 years of his life as a high school teacher of Spanish and French languages at Perry Meridian High School. He also taught student driver education through CIESC. After retiring from teaching, he continued to serve the community as a part-time school bus driver for Perry Township, Lawrence Township, and Franklin Township.

Terry’s attended Honey Creek High School in Vigo County, graduating on June 7, 1965. During high school, he was a team member of the basketball B-team. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science from Indiana State University followed by an additional Specialist in Education degree from Indiana University, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and the value of education.

A faithful member of Beech Grove Independent Nazarene Church for 51 years, Terry held various roles throughout his time there, including Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, usher, and church board member. His involvement extended beyond local worship and included a mission trip to Guatemala.

Terry will be remembered for his vibrant personality, characterized by his energy, kindness, humor, and loyalty. He was known for his unwavering support of the underdog, and he took pride in his identity as a Hoosier. An avid sportsman, he served as an IHSAA-licensed official for multiple sports, including track & field, cross country, basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball. He particularly enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and golf, and was a devoted fan of basketball great Larry Bird. Beyond sports, Terry found joy in travel, attending Southern Gospel music concerts, and foraging for morel mushrooms and wild black raspberries. Above all, he cherished moments spent with family and friends, engaging in games and meaningful conversations. Terry leaves behind a rich legacy of education, faith, and community service that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Catherine (Healy) Strain, and their daughter, Amanda Nicole Strain. He leaves behind two brothers, Ken Strain, Sr. and Jack Strain, and one sister, Janet (Strain) Manley, along with multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Huddleston) Strain; father, Elmer Strain; brothers Max Strain, Elmer Strain, Jr., Bud Strain, Bob Strain; and an infant sister, Patsy Strain.

Terry’s life will be celebrated during visitation at Beech Grove Independent Nazarene Church on November 7, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM. An additional visitation will take place at First Baptist Church in Prairie Creek, Indiana on November 8, 2025, from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at New Harmony Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution be made to Beech Grove Independent Nazarene Church & School.
