Theda was raised in Denison, Texas where her father ran a Piggly Wiggly grocery store. During high school she worked as a cashier at the corner store. She graduated from Denison High School Class in1953. She moved to Colorado and attended college and worked at Sears. During this era, she met Maurice Darling. She married Maurice on May 27, 1955. A couple of years later she retired and became a homemaker. Her first child, Terri, was born April 24, 1958. Her second child, Carole, was born April 24, 1959. Theda and Maurice lived with Grandma Greenfield until they bought a house in April 1960 at 1208 S Lamar. Several years later she had her third child, Todd, born April 24, 1964. Mom kept us busy with church activities, where she taught Sunday school for years. She was also a Girl Scout leader for 8 years where she kept us busy with camping and activities like dancing, tapping, and special events.
She was a hands-on mom until she returned to work in 1974. She started working at Giant Liquor, then she moved on to JCP in 1975. She sold furniture and appliances. She sold the first microwaves on the market. She was one of their top sellers. She was a seamstress and sewed her outfits for work, clothes for us and many Barbie outfits for our Barbies as well! She walked to work every day for years. After dad’s death in 1990 she joined The Widowed Men and Women of America Club. Her life of travel began including international places like Spain. She was their event organizer. They went to movies, plays, and neighborhood events around town. She enjoyed her social time with the club. Happy hour was always her favorite time with friends. She was still living in the house they bought in 1960, with the same phone number. She loved and worked in her garden every year, including this year. Her garden looks impressive this year as it did every year. She was continually active for her age and lived her life to the fullest.
We will miss her.
