Thelma Jean Gromer, age 90, of Peoria, passed away at 5:25 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at the OSF Hospice Home in Peoria.
Thelma was born in Gate City, VA on November 19, 1934, a daughter to Ralph and Betty Mae (Price) Jennings. She married Jack Gromer in Watseka, IL in 1950 and together they cherished 52 years until his passing in 2002. Thelma worked for many years at General Foods and in her free time she loved gardening, sewing, square dancing, reading, and playing cards. Entertaining family and friends with good food was one of her special gifts. She worshipped at the Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village, where she lived for over ten years. Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include three children: David (Cathy) Gromer of Peoria, IL, Janet (Peter Ladouceur) MacMillan of Ottawa, Ontario, Mike (Donna) Gromer of Valparaiso, IN; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mary Jo McCully of Mississippi and Belinda (Lance) Martell of Watseka, IL. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack, and two brothers: Ernest and Paul.
Per Thelma's wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in Iroquois County IL, where she lived most of her life. This will occur in late spring at a time to be determined, allowing family and close friends to gather to celebrate Thelma's and Jack's lives.
