Thelma Faye Lee Mathis, aged 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023. Thelma was born in Marlboro County, SC to the late Calvin and Telia Watson Lee. She was a devoted member of Westside Baptist Church where she had formed many friendships and cherished her time visiting with her fellow Sunday School members.
Thelma found joy in life's simple pleasures, such as traveling, going on cruises, working in her yard, and spending quality time with her family. Her two grandsons held a special place in her heart and were lovingly referred to as "her angels". Thelma was an accomplished computer operator who retired from J.P. Stevens-Delta Mills after years of dedicated service.
Thelma is survived by her son Charles "Chuck" Mathis of Cheraw, SC; daughter-in-law Carol "Annette" Mathis, who she treated like a daughter; and grandsons Tyler and Austin Mathis of Columbia, SC. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Charles D. Mathis; parents Calvin and Telia Watson Lee; and sisters Hattie L. Webster and Helen L. Hart.
The family is grateful to Carolyn Wilson and Tara Ratliff for their compassionate care while Mrs. Mathis required assistance.
A visitation will be held at Westside Baptist Church on Thursday June 15th from 12 Noon–1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM . Burial will follow at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation may do so by sending contributions to Westside Baptist Church, PO Box 1417, Cheraw, SC 29520.
