Thelma Rae Scronce Preslar (Granny), 93, of Ruffin, NC, gracefully completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, and is at peace with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM - 2:50PM on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held thereafter at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Reverend Terry Larsen officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Thelma was married to William Parks Preslar, Sr. (Bill) for 59 years until his death in 2009. She was predeceased by her daughter Lucy Hyatt Krites and son Marvin Ray Preslar. She is survived by sons: William Parks Preslar, Jr. (Janet-deceased) of Skiatook, OK; Beverly Clyde Preslar (Carol) of Charlotte, NC and daughter: Margaret Preslar Hash (Sonny) of Reidsville, NC. She cherished her 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren and, in turn, they enjoyed giving her hugs.
Thelma is the daughter of William Beverly Scronce and Lucy Peeler Scronce. Born May 12, 1932, in Lincoln County, NC, she was predeceased by her parents, her brothers: Willam C. Scronce (Pat) and Roby Lee Scronce (Mildred) and sister: Mary Marlene Scronce Hyatt (Gordon).
Thelma loved Jesus Christ, her family and countless friends. Over her lifetime, church was her compass as she moved from Lincoln County, NC to Union County, NC to Mecklenburg County, NC to Martinez, Georgia to Guilford College, NC to Reidsville, NC to Raleigh, NC to Gray, GA to Martinez, GA to Reidsville, NC and to Ruffin, NC. The Ruffin, NC community and Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church were especially welcoming as they embraced Thelma and Bill over decades in their retirement – providing bountiful Christian love and support. At Ruffin Stacey Baptist, Thelma was active in Sunday school, choir, Sunshine Club and many volunteer programs.
She always put others’ needs above her own and was a special Mom, wonderful cook, nurse, cheerleader, gardener, taxi driver, baby sitter, spiritual role model and friend. Thelma was employed for a number of years by Sears & Roebuck Mail-Order Center in Greensboro, NC and grew many lasting friendships there.
Thelma was also blessed with God-sent caregivers: Beth Lewis, Sheryl Ferguson, Tracey Stallings, Wendy Jeffries, GG Loftis. and other friends -- for which her family is eternally grateful.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or to Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church, 261 Estes Road, Ruffin, NC 27326.
