In Loving Memory of Ms. Thelma Nell Saunders October 5, 1942 – April 22, 2025
With heartfelt sadness, we announce the death of Ms. Thelma Nell Saunders of Cordele, Georgia, on April 22, 2025, at the age of 82. Affectionately known as T. Nell, she passed peacefully in her sleep with family at bedside, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well lived.
Born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, on October 5, 1942, T. Nell was the beloved daughter of the late Herbert Fitzgerald and Wilma Nell Clements Williams, stepdaughter to Hiram Pope Williams, Sr., and wife to the late Lee Saunders. She is survived in death by her treasured brother, Hiram Pope Williams, Jr. (Peter) - three cherished children, Vandy Harman (Todd), Mike Faircloth, and Lyn Young (Mike) - three adored grandchildren, Ben, Matt, and Chris Harman - and her faithful canine companion, Boogie.
Though raised in Cordele, T. Nell spent most of her life on St. Simons Island, where she found joy in the serene beauty of the Georgia coast. Her love for the island and its beaches was only matched by her passion for teaching. A dedicated educator, she served for over 30 years as a special education teacher, retiring from the Glynn County School System. During her younger years, T.Nell also enjoyed engaging her creative outlet as a founding partner of A Floral Fantasy, a well-loved flower shop on St. Simons. During her free-time, T.Nell also enjoyed traveling with her brother and visiting her grandchildren.
T. Nell will be remembered for her vivacious spirit, quick wit, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her life was filled with laughter, and the countless stories shared by friends and family are a testament to her vibrant personality and generous heart. She truly lived life to the fullest and touched the lives of all who knew her. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, April 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Hughes & Wright Funeral Home, 1010 E. 8th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia.
