Themetria Floro Svolos

1924 - 2022

Themetria Floro Svolos, known as Toly, passed away Monday morning, December 19, 2022 at the age of 98. Born September 1, 1924 she was the youngest of five daughters of John D. And Panayota Lascaris Floro.

Following graduation from Glens Falls High School and business school, she joined the workforce and relished her employment at Buddy L Toys and The Economy Store. In 1955 she married E. Gus Svolos of Schenectady and enjoyed a successful career of more than 30 years at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Toly had a remarkable work ethic that was instilled by her hard-working parents and throughout her youth, she took her turn and pitched in at her family's small restaurant helping out for what she always referred to as "starvation wages".

In her free time, she and Gus traveled extensively abroad and in the US. She especially enjoyed adventures in the Bahamas and Las Vegas. Other passions included duplicate bridge, trips to the Racino in Saratoga, and a variety of volunteer endeavors. She was very proud of having chaired the very first Greek Festival at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady where she was a loyal communicant for over 65 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted nieces and nephews: Joan Baenziger of Geneva, Switzerland, John Kokoletsos (Mary Ellen) of Clifton Park, Helen Fountaine (David) of Glens Falls, John Koskinas (Sandra) of Queensbury, Nicholas Gazetos (Melanie O'Brien) of Bethel, CT, Peter Gazetos (Susan) of Cleverdale, Mary Pearce (Peter) of Milford, CT, Irene Callahan (James) of Philadelphia, PA, Timothy Havens (Jane) of Hudson Falls, and Joanne Diamantis of Schenectady. She is also survived by many great and great, great nieces and nephews whom she adored and indulged.

She was predeceased by her husband as well as her dear sisters, Constance Floro, Margaret Kokoletsos, Diamond Havens and Angela Gazetos.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, December 21 at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 22 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Clinton St., Schenectady, NY. Interment to follow at Pine View Cemetery, Glens Falls, NY.
