Dr. Theodore "Ted" Conner Mason Forrest passed away on Monday, June 16 in Louisville, KY at the age of 69 surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born on October 3, 1955 in Providence, RI, he was a devoted husband to Dora; a loving father to Mason, Conner, William, and Millie; and a proud grandfather of Vera and Margot.
A graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Dr. Forrest had a prolific emergency medicine career spanning nearly four decades across the Sts. Mary and Elizabeth and Norton Audubon Hospitals. For Dr. Forrest, medicine was a calling, not simply a profession. He was the grandson of Dr. Robert Mason, a founding physician of the Mason Memorial Hospital (now the Murray-Calloway County Hospital) in Murray, KY; and Dr. Forrest himself was a founding partner of Southern Emergency Medical Services (SEMS). Known for his diagnostic efficiency in the Emergency Department, long-time colleagues estimated that his care touched "hundreds of thousands" of patients in Louisville throughout his tenure in healthcare.
Dr. Forrest was known for his generosity and his integrity, going out of his way to donate his time and resources to younger medical professionals and to the less fortunate. He was often a man of few words, but his quick wit and dry humor are remembered fondly by those close to him.
In addition to his family and medicine, Dr. Forrest had a deep love for history and the natural world. He spent his free time studying military history, birdwatching, breeding race horses, caring for family pets, and tending to his many exotic plants and flowers.
He is preceded in death by his mother Marilynn Forrest, his father Gaylord Forrest, and his daughter Millicent "Millie" Forrest. He is survived by his wife, Dora; his children Mason, Conner (Leah), and William; his grandchildren, Vera and Margot; and his brother, Robert "Bob;" as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. While his family is devastated by this loss, they take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the many lives touched by his compassion and care.
A memorial service will be held at Ratterman Brothers East Louisville Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 25. The visitation will take place from 1-5 PM, with the service taking place from 5-6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor or the
Woodford Humane Society.

I am sorry that I cannot attend Ted´s funeral. Ted was a good friend of mine at Vanderbilt. He was in my wedding. Ted was a friend when I needed a friend. He was always a southern gentleman. I regret not keeping up with my old friends like Ted over the years.
