Of Waupaca, age 99, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Moses Hall in King. Bill was born in Waupaca on September 13, 1925, a son to the late Minnie and Oscar Cook. He attended school at Waupaca High School and graduated in 1943. He was drafted to the Army in 1944. During WWII he became a prisoner of war. He was discharged in 1945. During his time in the service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Bill married Leta J. Siemering on November 3, 1946. He worked as an electrician for 30 years. He retired from Local 577 IBEW in 1987. Bill was an avid volunteer in the community. He volunteered many years for the Salvation Army, the Wisconsin Veterans Home, and the Iola Car Show. He enjoyed playing cards, playing the slot machines and reading. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.
Bill is survived by his sons: Bill (Debra) Cook of Denison, TX; Ron (Pat) Cook of Waupaca and Dick (Jackie) Cook of Waupaca; a sister: Sally Cook of Mazomanie, WI and sister-in-law: Joyce Weisbrod of Waupaca; 7 grandchildren and their spouses; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his,wife, Leta, brothers, Kenneth "Bud", Robert and Dave A. Cook, sisters, Marguerite Massa, Carol Finnegan and Dorothy Huettl, grandsons: Jonathon Cook and Roger Cook.
The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 12 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. The visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank ThedaCare Waupaca and ThedaCare Hospice as well as the staff of the Wisconsin Veterans Home for all their care.
