Obituary
Theodore Joseph Jones, Jr. was born on January 6, 1932, in Jacksonville, Florida to Theodore Edward Jones, Sr. and Josephine B. Jones. While living in Jacksonville with his parents he attended Duval County schools and graduated from Old Stanton High School in 1951.
Theodore went on to attend Edward Waters College in Jacksonville in 1951. Although he intended to study academics, his passions kept pulling him to the print shop. Theodore had the privilege of assisting with printing the first Florida Star newspaper in Jacksonville, Florida. This printing experience led him to his family-owned printing business, "Jones Printing Press". As a student at EWC, Theodore was afforded a deferment from entering the draft. However, his fascination with printing led to the cancellation of his deferment due to his attendance in his classes. After two years at EWC, he was drafted to serve time in the army. After leaving the military he met and married his wife Sarah Hilton and started a family.
Theodore began working for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in 1968, serving for almost 30 years. After retiring, Theodore spent time traveling with his younger brother Malachi, going to FAMU games, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also was involved in the American Legion and volunteered at Clanzel Brown Senior Citizen Center. Theodore was dedicated to his contribution to the Florida Star and was later interviewed by the editor in 2019 describing how much the Florida Star means to the Jacksonville community. Along with his love for the printing press, he also had a love for the sport of professional wrestling. He passed his love of the sport to all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by taking them to live wrestling matches or sitting around the TV on Monday nights.
Theodore was a devout member of Mount Sinai Missionary Church for over 80 years. He joined at the age of 10 years old. He sang in the male chorus for over 70 years and was the most senior surviving member of the original male chorus. During his time serving the church, he also served as one of their security officers.
Theodore was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Jones, Sr.; mother, Josephine B. Jones; wife, Sarah Hilton Jones; brothers, Joseph P. Long, Rudolph Jones, and Malachi Jones; and sons, Herbert Hilton and Anthony Jones.
He will forever be remembered and treasured by his sister, Rose Johnson (Earnest Lee); children, Ruby Hope (Ted), Larry Triplett, Roslyn Robinson (Charles), David Triplett, and Maurena Smith (Michael); children he cared for, Carolyn Duncan (Harry), Gloria Triplett, and Elmer Triplett; grandchildren, Cedric Hilton, Antwana Hilton, Theodore Clinch (LaShawndra), Larry Triplett Jr., Royce Wheeler, David Green, LaNorris Triplett (Dominique), Marcus Rivers, Ivana Rivers, Cierra Hilton, Jamal Triplett, Jordan Lara, Demetria Smith (Maurice), Bria Worgs (Delin), Deriyana Davis (Reginald), and Charles Robinson, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Sarah Hilton; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon F. Jones; nephew, Malachi Jones, Jr. (Abigail); niece, Tonya Jones; and a multitude of family and friends.
