Ted Netherton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was known for his quiet strength, steady presence, and deep devotion to those he loved. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Ted graduated from Emmerich Manual High School before serving his country as a member of the Air Force National Guard for six years. His career as a structural draftsman began at Central States Bridge Company in Indianapolis. With an eye for detail and a passion for precision, Ted went on to co-own a drafting business with three partners and later retired from Paden Engineering in Hope, Indiana. He could often be found at his drafting table, listening to the radio while meticulously working on blueprints. Ted got engaged to the love of his life, Ruth (Wilson) Netherton, just two weeks after they started dating. Their nearly six-decade-long marriage was a testament to love, faith, and mutual respect. Together, they raised two children, Richard and Laura. Ted never missed one of their games. He remained a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren's activities as well. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ted enjoyed both watching and playing sports. He played softball, basketball, and tennis, but it was bowling where he truly excelled. Whether cheering from the sidelines or joining a friendly game, his love of sports was contagious. Ted had a special bond with children, particularly his grandchildren. Babies were drawn to his gentle spirit, and he adored every moment he spent with them. Family was at the heart of Ted's life, and he cherished time spent with his nine siblings and their families, especially at picnics and card games that brought them all together. Quiet by nature, Ted could go hours without saying a word - but when he did speak, it was often with dry wit and gentle humor. His words, though few, were always meaningful. Above all, Ted cared deeply for his family and friends. His loyalty, humility, and love touched all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and quiet strength that will be remembered always. Ted is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Laura (Chris) Geis; son, Richard Netherton; grandchildren: William (Asa) Geis, Theodore Geis, Emma (Keegan) Sida, Margaret (Trystan) Kielbasa, Nathaniel Geis, Ryan Geis, and Rebekah Netherton; great grandchildren: Carter Kielbasa, Lyran Kielbasa, and Dayton Netherton. He is also survived by his brother, Tom (Pat) Netherton. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, George Geis; siblings: Mary (Norman) Tunison, Robert (Shirley) Netherton, James (Helen) Netherton, Jack (Sharron) Netherton, Judy (Shellie) Frazier, Barbara (Stanley) Glass, John (Danielle) Netherton, and Joan (Dennis) Slipher. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A funeral service will be held following visitation at 3:00 pm, all at Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Russell Springs, Kentucky. Please feel free to leave a memory or message of comfort for Ted's family in the guestbook.
