Theodore "Ted" V. Poe, born on August 9, 1934, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on his 90th Birthday at Celebration Villas of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Ted was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Byers) Poe, whom he married on November 22, 1956. They shared many wonderful years of marriage before Mary preceded him in death in August 2011.
Ted was a devoted father to two children, Cynthia Mowers and her husband Alan, and William Poe and his wife Suzanne. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren Ali Mowers, Brooke Poe husband Alex, Lexy (Poe) Martin husband Chase and Ryan Todd and one great-grandson, Deklan Martin.
Ted was one of 12 siblings, born to the late Roy C. and Ruth (Brechbiel) Poe. Isabell Wenger, last surviving sibling of Lancaster. He graduated from Chambersburg Area High School in 1952 and later pursued higher education, earning a degree from Penn State University in 1983.
Ted had a deep passion for business and education. He managed the Greyhound Bus Station on Third Street in Chambersburg, successfully ran three restaurants, and owned several rental properties. Later in life, Ted retired as a Quality Foods and Restaurant Practice teacher at the Chambersburg Area Vocational School, where he shared his love for the culinary arts with many students.
Ted was also a talented singer, sharing his love of music as a member of the Methodist 4 Quartet, Kings Ambassadors, and Gospel Tide. He especially enjoyed spending time with the Poe family during the annual "Poe Holiday Lunch" and caroling, creating cherished memories with his loved ones.
A faithful member of King Street Church in Chambersburg, Ted's presence and contributions will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service celebrating Ted's life will take place on Friday August 16 at Kelso Cornelius funeral home in Chambersburg at 11am. With a time of visitation starting at 9:30am. Pastor Ron Cook will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ted's memory to King Street Church "Missions Commission" https://kingstreetchurch.com/give/ways-to-give/ or Alzheimer's Association https://alzfdn.org/donate/. Student of Mr. Poe in Quantity Foods/Restaurant Practice at Franklin County Career & Technology Center, not called this at that time. I have very fond memories of the fun times we all had in class with the potato masher & such. He was a great role model. He had a great voice as well. I will always remember him. May you all be covered by our Savior“s peace & comfort. Rest in peace Mr. Poe.
