With great sadness we announce the passing of Theodore "Ted" Shade on August 20th,2025, at the age of 85. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to so many.
Ted is survived by his Wife (Joni), Children; Tim, Tami (Mark) and Wanda (Jon), Grandchildren; Mike (Anna), Chris, Steve (Shelby), Parker (Kate), Ben, Mat (Kennedy), Zach, Joe (Ashley) and Scott, Great Grandchildren; Mason, Lincoln, Charlotte, Oliver, Morgan, Stephen Jr, Zander and Logan.
Ted started his career in the Army as Military Police. The rest of his career always seemed to evolve around cars: owning a gas station, car repair, car sales to owning his own body shops/ Ted loved his family and being involved in family gathers, grandkids
sporting events (baseball, wrestling, soccer, hockey, football, and lacrosse) and school concerts. He loved helping all the kids from his own to grandkids to parallel park. He loved old classic car shows that included his own 1964 Ford Convertible. He shared this passion with many friends and all going to Porky's Drive in Restaurant after the shows.
Ted also enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards (men against the women), the men would often win (or cheated Ted and Joni really enjoyed traveling to so many wonderful places but mostly, going south for the winters for 20 years as 'snowbirds'. He enjoyed meeting new friends and going Karaoke singing country western songs at least 3 times a week.
Ted always seemed to keep himself busy, being outside and fixing things. The past few years he picked up the hobby of baking cookies. His most favorite to bake was peanut butter cookies, that he was not supposed to eat due to his diabetes. So, he would often give them away to family, friends, neighbors and bake for celebrations, but he would still sneak a few for himself. He will be so missed!
A service will be held to celebrate Ted's life on September 18th at Oakwood Funeral Home in Maplewood. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00pm with the celebration of life service from 6:00-6:30pm. During this service there will be a time to share memories of Ted for anyone who wants to share.
We also welcome kind words, stories, thoughts and prayers on the Tribute Wall, here on this site, or during the visitation time while enjoying cookies and beverages.
