Therese M. Churchill, a longtime resident of Somers, NY passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the age of 94. She was born in Bronx, NY on March 12, 1930, the daughter of Patrick J. and Mary Frances (Moore) Keating.
Therese earned a Bachelor's Degree from Marymount College and enjoyed a long career as an elementary school teacher. Teaching was her calling and she savored every minute in the classroom with her students. She initially taught in Harlem, before moving to Post Road Elementary School in White Plains, NY, where she was well liked and respected by her students, their parents and the faculty. Even now, her home is filled with pictures of "her kids" and lovely memories of the time she spent with them over a life time. She enjoyed playing the piano, playing Mah Jong with her Laurel Lane friends and visiting the Catskill mountains where she spent many summers as a child. Shopping at Macy's was her great joy and she never missed a chance to go to Woodstock and shop there as well. A woman of deep faith, Therese was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac.
On July 9, 1999 she married William F. Churchill, at Our Lady, Queen of Angel's Chapel of St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac. William predeceased her on March 11, 2013. She is survived by her step-children, William Churchill and his wife, Jan of Satellite Beach, FL, Kathy Churchill of Melbourne, FL and Margaret Friend and her husband, Donald of Kissimmee, FL; her cousin, Pat Curley-Varricchio, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband William, she was predeceased by her nephew, Robert Keating in 2023. She loved Bob like a son and she gave many years of her life to raising him when he was a child. Robert's wife, Lynn survives at their home in North Carolina. Additionally, she was predeceased by her stepson, Michael, her brothers, Hillary and Francis Keating and her sister, Patricia Keating.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation on Thursday, January 30 from 3-6 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 31 at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
