Geniene Guglielmo Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Dr. Geniene Mary Guglielmo, beloved educator, community leader, athlete and matriarch, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025. Born in Meriden, Connecticut and raised in Lake Carmel, New York, Geniene's life was defined by her unwavering dedication to education, family and community.
A proud graduate of Carmel High School (Class of 1960), Geniene pursued her passion for learning and earned her Doctorate in Education from Fordham University in 1998. Her career in education spanned decades and touched countless lives. She taught at Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY and John F. Kennedy High School in Somers, NY, served as Vice Principal at Ossining High School, Principal at Brewster High School, and ultimately as Superintendent of the Highland Falls School District. Her leadership and vision left an enduring legacy in every institution she served.
Geniene was predeceased by her parents, Marion Aubry (Nelson) and Charles Aubry, and her devoted husband, Jerry Guglielmo. She is survived by her two sisters Gail Giustino and Michelle DeSimone, loving children and their spouses: Anthony Guglielmo (Noreen), Natalie Colella (Joe), Andrea Flynn (David), and John Guglielmo (Cassie). Known affectionately as "Oma", Geniene was immensely proud of her children, eleven grandchildren-Chris, Ryan (Jamie), Aubrey (Michael), Dakota, Natalie, Sophia, Josie, Matthew, and Bella-and five great-grandchildren: Elodie, Rosie, Caden, Jayce, and Willow.
An accomplished athlete, Geniene was fiercely competitive. She excelled in softball and volleyball, playing recreationally well into her 60s. She coached adult, youth and high school teams with passion and pride, inspiring generations of young athletes. Alongside her husband, she co-founded the Kent Knights Youth Football and Cheerleading organization in 1971, which served thousands of children in the Kent, Lake Carmel, and Carmel communities for over 40 years.
Geniene's fiery spirit was matched only by her love for sports-she was a loyal fan and a thorn-in-the side of umpires and referees. Her compassion extended to animals as well; she served on the board of the Putnam Humane Society and was a devoted dog lover.
Dr. Geniene Marie Guglielmo will be remembered for her unwavering strength, boundless energy and deep love for her family and community. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she inspired, taught and loved.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Our Lady of the Lake/Mt. Carmel Church, 1 Doherty Drive, Carmel, NY.
