The Man, The Myth, The Legend Thomas "Dan" Abbey passed away peacefully in his sleep at Pruitt Nursing home in Milton, FL. on July 7, 2025.
Dan was born September 6, 1941 to Joseph and Elizabeth Abbey in the very small town of Greenwood, MS. Dan was a well respected businessman. He had a full life filled with adventure and excitement, to put it mildly. If you were blessed enough to get to know Dan you have probably heard the stories. He served his country in the Navy, enlisting on January 4, 1960, Patrol Squadron Eleven, USNAS, Brunswick, Maine. He often reflected back to the days when he was a spotter tracking Russian ships. After that he worked for an ambulance service in North Florida, Where he made a few life long friends. Then worked his way up to "Bigwig" in the Tire business for Uniroyal Tire. In 1977 he became a successful accountant for his brother-in-law working for "Sun Systems". Then he circled back around to the Wrecker and Tire business when he became the business owner of J & J Tires. Dan really Loved to work, the wrecker business allowed him to work 24/7. That was the perfect work schedule for Dan. He retired after closing his Wrecker and Tire store in 2021.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Two brothers, John Abbey and Walter Abbey, two sisters Mary "Missy" Boyles and Ellen "Doll" Ricks. His spirit is carried on by his loving wife Barbara Jean Abbey of Pace, FL and his children and grandchildren. His daughter Danielle Williams, of Pensacola, FL, His Son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kimille Abbey of Charlotte, NC, His daughter and Son-In-Law Sheila and Charles Haney of Pace, FL and his daughter and son-in-law Penelope "Penny" and Mark Lang of Pace, FL. His grandchildren David (Jessica) Williams, Adam Williams, Reid (Spencer) Haney, Mikaela, Zoe, Ella and Keely Abbey and Great grandchildren Dominic Williams, Michael Haney and Madison Williams.
Under Dan's gruff front he liked to display during working hours he was a deeply caring man who loved his family, Jesus and friends with his whole heart, he loved giving back to people and helping those in need. Dan had a bigger than life personality that is rare to find, his sense of humor and zeal for life will most definitely be missed by many.
Arrangements will be through Family Funeral and Cremation 5627 North Davis Hwy, Pensacola, FL 32503 Wednesday July 16, 2025 Visitation 3:00 P.M. to 4 P.M. Services will be held 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Dan " I'd rather owe you than cheat you out of it" Abbey, taught me to play 9 ball and happily took my last two twenty dollar bills.. he was less happy when Reggie Jackson and the Yankees beat his LA Dodgers in the '78 World Series and he 'owed' me $200.. I think he paid up but I can't honestly remember.. he was a happy man and I'm happy I knew him.. JM

Sending prayers to Barbara and all of Dan's family. Dan was one of a kind...probably a good thing. We had some fun times back in my Interstate Tire days. Thanks for the great memories and for always looking out for me. Tommy (deceased 12/19/24) and I enjoyed reminiscing about you over the years. Tommy will be glad to see you. R.I.P. Dan.
Remembering you with love and respect,

Carolyn Rogers
