Thomas 'Robert' Attix of Clayton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, May 12, 2025. He was 87 years old. Robert was a hardworking man and was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his family, he found so much joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved weekly visits to local farm sales, passing out candy and sweets, hunting, trap shooting, working on the farm, watching nascar races, raising his cows (many better known as his pets) and sitting in his favorite recliner enjoying a cold Pepsi with his beloved dog Huey.
He served in the National Guard and was a member of the Kenton Ruritan Club. He spent his career working for Clark Seed Company 1959-1969 and then the City of Dover 1969-2000, retiring after 31 years.
He was born January 7,1938, the son of the late Earl Short Attix and Mary Elizabeth Masten Attix. He was a lifelong resident of Clayton, DE where he lived his entire life near the family farm on Seven Hickories.
Robert is preceded by his son Thomas Robert Jr, his sisters Isabel Jarman, Emily Woodall, Thelma Pryor, his brothers William, Gilbert and Donald Attix and son-in-law Carson Garthright.
Robert is survived by his teenage sweetheart and loving wife of 67 years who has been by his side for more than 70 years Carol Attix (Clegg), his children who loved him dearly Richard Attix (Koren), Mary Garthright (Leyton), Carol Attix-Walls (Bobby) and daughter-in-law Donna Attix. He will be greatly missed by his two beautiful sisters Clara Marie Gravatt and Mary Joan Pratt (Curtis) and his brother-in-law Robert Clegg, along with so many nieces and nephews.
He was the best pop-pop ever and truly adored by his 8 grandchildren Ashley (Ryan), Kevin (Amber), Richard (Jessica), Mason, Alyssa (Patrick), Tommy, Courtney (Justin), Hunter (Kelsey). The most precious gift of all, his 10 great grandchildren Caeden, Colton, Addison, Emerson, Juniper, Olive, Madison, Giuliana, Tucker, and Oliver.
A very special thank you to his sisters Clara Marie Gravatt and Mary Joan Pratt who helped care for him during his illness.
Services will be held Friday, May 16 at Fairies Funeral Home, 29 S. Main St. Smyrna, Delaware at 1:00 p.m. where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will be held at a later date.
