Thomas J. Barrett, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 13. Tom is survived by his children Kelly (Don) Lupo, Michelle (Michael) Orta and Tommy. Beloved brother to Eileen (the late Walter) Zakrzewski. Cherished "Pa" to his six grandchildren, Bryn, Tess and Lyla Orta; Jake, Raeah and Alora Lupo. Best friend to Joanne Barrett. Devoted Uncle and Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his loving parents, the late James and Mary Ellen, and his late brothers Martin (the late Marion) and James.
Tom enjoyed a decorated 38 year career with the Chicago Fire Department, retiring as a District Chief in 2004. He was a well respected leader and friend to all, and will always be remembered as the nicest guy you could have ever known. He will be missed immensely.
Visitation will be held Thursday 3:00pm- 8:00pm at Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Hwy. in Park Ridge. Funeral Friday, prayers at the funeral home 10:00am going to Immaculate Conception for 10:30am mass. Info 847-685-1002 www.cooneyfuneralhome.com

To Joann, Tommy and All the Barretts'

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Tom. Please accept mine & Pats heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.

Tom was a remarkable person who touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to the Chicago Fire Department. His presence was a source of inspiration, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and being his friend. He was a fabulos fireman.

Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
