Thomas Bonham Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Dec. 23, 2025.
Thomas Emerson Bonham, 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on December 22, 2025. He was born on July 27, 1938, in Midland, Michigan, to Melvin and Elizabeth Bonham. He was the third of four children.
Tom worked for Dow Chemical as a Pipe-Fitter Welder for 37 years. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, he was a jack of all trades and enjoyed working on and helping others with special projects. Tom had a deep love for working with his John Deere Tractors. He was known by many as "the John Deere whisperer," having an extensive knowledge of all John Deere Tractors. He also participated in and watched many tractor pulls around the state.
Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sitting around a campfire with friends and family. He loved a good road trip, going out to breakfast, and playing cards. He was known for having a gregarious laugh and, as his grandchildren say, the best bear hugs.
At the center of Tom's world was the love of his life, Lois Bonham (Bruner). They were married on June 28th, 1957, in Clare, MI, and shared 68 years of unwavering love, partnership, and devotion. Together, they built a life rooted in commitment, laughter, and shared adventures.
Tom cherished time spent with family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Lois; a sister, Linda Clapp; his children, Scott (Sandy) Bonham and Lori (Kim) Hohisel; his beloved grandchildren, Jenny, Aubrey, Jake (Camille), Kaitlyn, and Shay; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Emerson, and Emilie. He is also survived and loved by several nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Elizabeth Bonham; two brothers, Marvin and Ron; sister-in-law Sherry (Warren) Keiser; son Steven Bonham; and grandson Clark Bonham.
Tom will be remembered for his enduring strength, his deep and steadfast love for Lois, his dedication to his family, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A cremation has taken place per his wishes and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please consider, St. Jude's, Shriners Hospital or Midland County 4H in his honor.

Lois, so sorry to hear of Tom´s passing. What a great guy! I am glad I stopped by Washington Woods and saw the two of you in the lunch room before Matt and I left for Ohio.
