Thomas Michael Boone, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. He was preceded to Heaven by his mother, Shelba Jean Boone Stanley and stepfather, Bill William Stanley, and his maternal grandparents, Warner and Ethel Boone.
Mike was born at Spruce Pine Hospital in Mitchell County on March 10, 1970.
Mike met his wife Jennifer in 1989. They married August 25, 1990, surrounded by family and friends. In 1996, Mike and Jennifer welcomed their only child, Morganne Patricia, then in 2018, the best gift ever arrived; his granddaughter, Mikenlee. This precious princess was the beat of his heart.
Mike worked extremely hard to make sure "his girls" were taken care of and that they felt loved every day.
Faith was important to him. He and Jennifer joined West Burnsville Baptist Church after they were married, but also attended Faith Baptist Church from time to time throughout the years.
Over the years, Mike wore many different hats. He worked as a Referee, Trash Truck Driver, Long Haul Tractor Trailer Driver, Correctional Officer, Sheriff's Lead Detective, Police Officer and then retiring as Chief of Police with the Town of Marshall in Madison County.
Mike loved animals. He and Jennifer had a fury baby, Abbeygail.
One of Mike's greatest joys in life was deer hunting. He had traveled all over several states hunting and making life-long friends and amazing memories. When it wasn't deer season, you would find him on the golf course playing eighteen and enjoying every minute.
There wasn't any sport Mike didn't love. His favorite was the New Orleans Saints. Mike had been a Saints fan from age seven.
Mike loved Ford Mustangs and loved his memories of drag racing from youth.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Hughes-Boone; daughter, Morganne Patricia; granddaughter and light of his life, Mikenlee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Patsy Hughes; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Myra and Rick Byrd; brother-in-law, Matt Hughes; nieces and nephews: Zachary and Kacey Byrd, and their daughter, Alyviah, William Byrd, Grayson Hughes and Lauren Elizabeth Hughes along with friend, Marquetta Garnett. Several other extended family also survive.
A public visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Yancey Funeral Services. Per Mike's wishes, a private, sacred family service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the family to help with one of Mike's greatest private outreaches that he would want us all to continue helping.

One of my favorite memories of Mike was watching the 1993 college basketball championship. Carolina beat the Michigan Wolverines also know as the fab five. Mike, Jennifer and I were jumping up and down in their living room crazy with excitement. Mike loved playing basketball as did I.

Mike was one of the finest men I've known. He was my first cousin and I knew him to be honest, strong, and funny. Once shot in the line of duty by someone out to kill him, he remained committed to doing the right thing for the community and for his family. He sure loved his girls; the hole he leaves behind is vast.
