Mr. Thomas J. Brewster, 76, of Amsterdam passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 5, 2024, following a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis with his loving family at his side.
Born on November 21, 1947, in Amsterdam, New York the son of the late Morris F. and Marian F. (O'Sullivan) Brewster. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1965.
Tom began his career working for the State of New York at the Department of Transportation. He was then employed for many years in sporting goods retail management and sales and was a district manager for Herman's World of Sporting Goods. He was last employed by Frank's Gun Shop before retiring due to ill health.
Tom had an appreciation for the great outdoors and nature and spent many hours hunting, trapping, fishing and fly fishing. He also had a passion and talent for tying his own detailed and colorful flies. Additionally, he had great interest and knowledge about civil war history.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ardeena Masten Brewster. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by daughter, Kelly (Timothy Wojcik); son, James (Jamie Bruse); and cherished grandsons, Bennett and Bodi Brewster. He was predeceased by his infant son, Timothy.
A private burial service will be held for family.

While they grew apart over the years, Tom was a dear friend of my step father, Robert Murray. Tom and Bob met at the state DOT and bonded through their love of the outdoors. That led to the origin of B&T (Bob and Tom) Hunting Trapping and Fishing supplies, and Tom being the best man in Bob´s marriage to my mother. Many nice memories of Tom. Driving by Franks Guns today inspired me to look up Tom, and was sad to see he had passed. God Bless.

Tom was a very special friend of mine. We spent quite a bit of time together in our younger years. He was always willing to help out whenever needed. I just read the news of his passing a moment ago! Theresa and I send our most deepest condolences to Ardeena and his family. He will be missed...a lot!

Dearest Ardeena,
Adriana and I wanted to extend our deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of our dear friend Tom. We have been neighbors for 18 years now, and since day one You and Tom have always made us feel welcome and at home. I first met Tom when he would go on his early morning walks with Sadie, Millie (and later all his other wonderful dogs). When ever I spotted him, I would always call him over for a quick chat, and for his sage advice on a variety of projects I had going on at the time. My fondest memories of Tom will always be those time I would join him on those walks down Guy Park Ave. Even though our politics may have been different, It didn't matter, he always listened to me and I to him, and we would talk about everything, the history of Amsterdam, the value of family, snow blowers, fishing on Lake Sacandaga and everything else under the sun! He was an amazing friend and great mentor to me and I will truly miss him! God Bless you and your family and may the spirit of my dear friend Tom live on forever and ever!! Eddie & Adriana Barba

Condolences to the family of Tom. We miss the visits to his camp. When Annie would disappear, we knew he was with Tom and Ardeena mooching a cookie from them and getting hugs from Tom. Rest in peace dear friend.
